Senses Lab

SEnsors NetworkS and Embedded Systems Laboratory

Center for Cyber Intelligence and Information Security

Pre-Ph.D. research positions in underwater networking, Internet of Things, and 5G advanced wireless technologies (2017)

Positions are available for research on next-generation networking with the SENSES Lab of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Rome “La Sapienza.”

Thesis and job opportunities

We offer grants for covering the expenses of joining SENSES lab to perform a master thesis (average time between 6 to 9 months, depending on project). Candidates must be highly motivated students with a good exam record (for the italian students a minimum average  grade of 27/30 during both undergrad and graduate studies is typically required). Both students with a more theoretical background, wanting to challenge themselves with design and optimization of wireless and embedded systems, and students with strong system development skills can apply. Please take a look at the on going research to have a first idea of areas where projects are available.
Projects on which we are seeking for candidates include the following areas:
  • Design and optimization of mobile underwater sensor networks (activity within the framework of EC projects);
  • Energy neutral cyber physical systems (activity within the framework of EC and national projects);
  • Design and optimization of mobile cloud computing systems (activity within the framework of the EC project TROPIC) ;
  • Cognitive radio systems and optimization of future (LTE-A) systems (activity within the framework of national projects);
  • Development of BAN/PAN and  RFID based systems for healthcare applications (activity with the framework of EC and national projects);
  • Design and optimization of solutions for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (national project).
Other topics of interest are nanonetworks and smart grids design and optimization.

PhD fellowships are available for exceptional students and for the best students which have performed an internship period or their master thesis at Senses lab.
